A Day of Kindness

A Day of Kindness

In the midst of all the Valentine's Day hype - the blinding aisles of red and pink and shiny balloons - one important, albeit less flashy, day of February gets shoved to the side, but this day, too, celebrates love: love towards our fellow human beings. This Friday, February 17th, is one of the best days of the year: Random Acts of Kindness Day, and I think we would all benefit from sharing it.

Give a Little Respect

Give a Little Respect

No matter where you go - be it Mississippi College which strives to show Christ's love and message to all its students or to a state school - you are going to face the same point in your life, or at least, I hope you do.

Last First Day

Last First Day

I didn't picture myself writing this blog at home. As I sat at the dining room table, cornbread browned in the oven, NFL football blared from the living room, and the trees sparkled with frozen crystals of ice in the sunlight. I was supposed to be in Clinton, snuggled on the love seat in my tiny apartment, savoring a hot cup of tea, only a stone's throw from the campus that I have called home for nearly four years. That was the setting I imagined writing about my last first day of class, yet things change. The fact that my last first day has come announces this truth: things do, in fact, change. This day signifies that what once began will draw to a close.

Resolutions for a New Semester

Resolutions for a New Semester

In less than a week, a new academic semester will begin at Mississippi College, and much like the start of the new year, a different semester brims with the promise of change. Currently, people all around the world are resolving to improve their lives in some way: be it losing weight, exercising more or having more fun. The arrival of a new semester offers the same opportunity for a new start.

'Tis Better to Give than Receive

'Tis Better to Give than Receive

When I was younger, I would lurk around the Christmas tree, waiting for my mother to turn her back, so I could shake the brightly colored packages under its boughs. Even now as a college senior, I can't help but wake up earlier than usual to see what was stuffed in my stocking or to rip the paper off a present to reveal the book I have been patiently waiting to read.

MC Christmas Traditions

MC Christmas Traditions

Around this time of year, MC gets extra festive. We love Christmas here, and why shouldn't we?  After all, we are celebrating of our Savior's birth, so without further ado, here are some of our Christmas traditions.

Thanks, MC

Thanks, MC

I have found that it becomes easier and easier to forget how thankful we are for the things and people in our daily lives. Of course we're thankful for our friends and family, but we don't always say that actively. The same goes for Mississippi College. I spend the majority of the year here, and I'm definitely caught in the day to day grind of classes, work, and social events. But at the Choctawk, we want to take the time to say thank you to Mississippi College. I think I speak for all of us when I say that MC has changed our lives for the better.

Let's Talk About It: Gender Inequality

Let's Talk About It: Gender Inequality

This is about women being valued as less than men, a view that is clearly contradictory to the way Jesus interacted with women. It's about a woman wanting to be valued for her intellect, ambition, and passion, not her body. It's about Christians protecting the rights of all who have been made in the image of God.

College and Real Life

College and Real Life

I had an idea of what college would be like. In all my high school musings, I always pictured myself having the time of my life in college. Late night food runs and heart-to-hearts, road trips, and cool events on campus. Even studying for classes and taking tests were fun at my imaginary college. I do not attend my imaginary college. My time at Mississippi College has been transformative. The people I've met, the texts I've read, the pages I've written, and the questions I've asked have caused me to grow.

Fall Break

Fall Break

Hey guys! I have great news. Fall Break is upon us, and I am ecstatic. Around this time every year, I desperately need a break from papers and tests, and Fall Break is just that. While it may be tempting to just hole up in my apartment, binge watch Netflix, and sleep, Fall Break is an opportunity to explore and have fun. If you are having a hard time thinking of ways to spend your break, we have some ideas. Here are some of the ways the Choctawk team members are spending our long weekend.

How to Study

How to Study

Today, all four of us are here to share with your our studying tips and tricks. We come from three different majors and four different points of view, but we're all upperclassmen, so we like to think we have a grasp of how college works.

Finding Opportunity: Off-Campus Involvment

Finding Opportunity: Off-Campus Involvment

Here's the cool thing. When you move to Mississippi College, you move to Clinton and the greater Jackson area, so while you are a MC student, you are also a member of a much larger community with a ton of cool opportunities. A lot of students forget this, and don't take advantage of the opportunities in the area.
