Happy first day of February! Of course, we all know February as the month of love (Hello, Valentine's Day), but today we're focusing on another aspect of February: It's Black History Month. To kick it off, we've decided to highlight some famous African Americans throughout history.
I'm not counting, but Christmas is just twenty days away! To get in the Christmas spirit, I would suggest going out and immersing yourself in Christmas, and an easy way to do that is it visit spots with incredible Christmas light displays. This year, we've assembled the top five places within three hours of campus to go and get in the Christmas spirit.
I have found that it becomes easier and easier to forget how thankful we are for the things and people in our daily lives. Of course we're thankful for our friends and family, but we don't always say that actively. The same goes for Mississippi College. I spend the majority of the year here, and I'm definitely caught in the day to day grind of classes, work, and social events. But at the Choctawk, we want to take the time to say thank you to Mississippi College. I think I speak for all of us when I say that MC has changed our lives for the better.
Over the past few months, the Choctawk team has been having some pretty serious discussions on religion, politics, personal tragedies, and the need we see in the world. When you come to college, you'll come across people who believe differently than you, and you'll wrestle with your own beliefs and what they truly mean for your life. We feel as if these conversations are necessary to life, necessary to find the common humanity in others. Thus, we have decided to begin a series to discuss the hard things we've encountered; this is part one.
Before coming to college, I assumed that my professors would be too busy to invest in my life, to hear my ideas, or to care about my future. However, this idea changed my Freshman year when my professors gave up their time to help me work through problems or to listen to my ideas for a paper. Now that I'm in my Senior year, it's hard to me to imagine what these past four years would have been like without the support and guidance of my professors.
The semester is a month in, and it seems as if all of the projects, parties, and papers are coming in one huge wave. With midterms right around the corner (Yes, they are happening sooner than you think), it's easy to feel overwhelmed by school, work, and personal events; however, you don't have to let this stress overtake your life.
