Juniors (& certainly seniors too!), it's that time in your high school career: the time in which you start looking at colleges for yourself. You sign up for more information from a couple schools, you visit the websites of a few others, & you attend a lunchtime meeting at school with a college representative. After all that, as well as after reading an informative pamphlet the representative handed you, you're left with a great sense of knowledge about a lot of different schools. But what about having a particular connection to a college?

A Season for Everything

A Season for Everything

For some people, the fact that summer means an absence of school is more than a little unpleasant to hear. For some of us during the school year, summer loomed ahead as far more than an absence from classes. It's also an absence from of lot of the deep friendships you've established, from two hour lunch conversations in the Caf, as well as from countless midnight Whataburger, Krispe Kream, or Waffle House runs. To some people, summer means pausing so much goodness, certainly for more goodness of a different sort, but to what avail?

Finding "The One:" How to Start Your College Search

So then, knowing that there are so many incredible colleges to choose from, how on earth do you get started with picking just one? That's a valid question & one that I asked myself more than once in my high school career. There are so many possibilities that it can be difficult to even begin looking for the right college fit. Resurrection Power: An Easter Devotional

Resurrection Power: An Easter Devotional

On Resurrection Sunday obviously, Christ's resurrection is prominent & celebrated joyfully. It is a day of remembering the cost of salvation and rejoicing that God the Father would pay the price of his Son for such a broken world. But what about the other days of the year? What does it look like to focus upon the resurrection of our Savior on a Monday in March or a busy summer Saturday? If Christ's resurrection gives us victory over death through the Holy Spirit, what does it look to live in that resurrection power daily?

Dear High School Me...

Dear High School Me...

Reflection is a healthy part of growth in life. When we look back to our pasts & take a close look at who we used to be, not only do we see how far we've come but we can recognize the most important parts of the journey. Reflection allows us to learn from everything that life has either handed us politely or thrown quite forcefully at us. With that in mind, here are two of the Choctawk bloggers' takes on their high school selves in the form of letters.

No Major? No Sweat!

No Major? No Sweat!

So you want to go to college but you don't have a ideas for a major...well then, I've got a story for you.

Once upon a time there was a high schooler who needed to make a lot of big decisions & that freaked her out big time. Making life-altering choices such as choosing a college felt daunting when she had no idea what direction (literally or figuratively) she wanted to go in life. She felt like the unknown was far too close for comfort, & it overwhelmed the planner in her. While her doctor-aspiring friends were applying to colleges with the best pre-med programs & her future-architect-friends found schools suited to their needs, she felt as though she had nothing to go on at all in the college decision-making process. However, by the grace of God & the advice of a few people, she ended up at a school that she loves &, after some time, studying a subject she also loves.

Doubling Up (in Majors!)

Doubling Up (in Majors!)

But what if your passions & your talents don't quite line up quite perfectly? Or what if you're incredible at a wide variety of things (people like that really do exist, I promise) & you're also passionate about them all? Or maybe if you just simply can't quite make up your mind about what to do. That's why there's such thing as a double major!

When Home is Far Away

When Home is Far Away

Here I am, not unlike hundreds of other people here on MC's campus, at a school hundreds of miles away from where I live. I wouldn't trade it for the world, namely because I know that I am exactly where I am meant to be, but there are times that it gets hard being so far from home.
