College and scholarship essays can be incredibly stressful to write. It often feels as if so much rides on the words you pick to represent yourself in front of a committee. Why, let's be honest, it can feel as if your entire future rests in how well you can write an essay. We as writers, however, want to give you some advice to hopefully make this time less stressful.
In my twenty-one years, I've often struggled with feeling less-than. Whether it was on the soccer field in middle school, in the youth group in high school or even now, in the classroom at MC, it's been really easy for me to believe that I'm not enough for the setting that I'm in. I've learned a lot throughout the years, becoming more confident in my abilities and believing that I am who my Maker says I am.
Writing can be a tricky business, even to the people blessed enough to enjoy it. Sometimes an assignment refuses to be written, protesting its existence by a few stray thoughts on a blank page and the ever-blinking cursor. So what is one to do with a paper that is so obstinately opposed to being? Bite the bullet? Suffer through the writer’s block knowing that on the other side is a paper that exists out of sheer necessity? Let me answer those sentiments with an emphatic “no.” There is no use staring at an expanse of white in hopes of evoking the writing muses when the Mississippi College Writing Center, exists.

We came to Mississippi with no knowledge of where to escape off campus or where to shop for important necessities like shoes or sushi, but after a few years of exploring, we've discovered some fabulous places in the city that we've grown to love.
