Even though you may work a job or take summer classes, hopefully you've been able to take advantage of the season & its opportunities to fill your mind with the stuff of books. If you haven't though, no worries, because you've still got time! For the last remaining month of summer, make it your goal to get through at least one book. If you're wondering where to begin, read on to discover some of the favorite books of the summer from me & some of my bibliophilic friends.
Directly across the North side of the Quad lies the Leland Speed Library. Upon entering the library, one is not swept up in a rapturous sense of the sublimity of knowledge. The carpeted floors, groups of arm chairs, and the circulation desk announce functionality, yes, sublimity, no. A weightiness and a seriousness characterize the library. This is because the library is, first and foremost, a symbol and center of learning.
In a few months, students will flood the campus of Mississippi College, bringing distinct perspectives and life experiences with them. College provides one of the best opportunities for you to expand your mind through classes and the different people you encounter. It's exciting, growing, and sometimes, a bit shocking and frustrating. The truth is, though, that you can encounter different minds without leaving your room. Reading provides us with a way to step into others shoes, explore lands we've never seen, and think thoughts we would have never contemplated. Do yourself a favor and read something this summer. If you don't have any ideas, we've thought of a few based on your interests.
When it comes to book recommendations, word of mouth is a powerful tool. Some of the books on this list, books that have changed my life, I only know about because of a friend. So today, I'm going to be that friend for you. These books, these bundles of words and sentences that have been bound together to create beauty, are my "must reads". Most of them are nonfiction, one of them is fiction, but they've all shaken my world and pointed me to Jesus.
Hello Choctawk readers! It's Nolie and Andrew, and we love reading! We asked our fellow Choctawkers and the folks in Admissions for some book recommendations. To say the types of books recommended were varied is a huge understatement, and so hopefully, we have included something for everyone. Without further ado, here are ten books to add to your summer reading list!
