'Tis Better to Give than Receive

When I was younger, I would lurk around the Christmas tree, waiting for my mother to turn her back, so I could shake the brightly colored packages under its boughs. Even now as a college senior, I can't help but wake up earlier than usual to see what was stuffed in my stocking or to rip the paper off a present to reveal the book I have been patiently waiting to read.

For this blog, I was told to think about what I would tell an incoming Freshman if I could only tell them one thing, and I had all sorts of great lines like "You are your biggest obstacle," "Don't Stop Believing," and "Timing is Everything," and "Don't waste your time." However, despite the potential for countless Journey references available in some of those titles, I have decided to go in a different direction. I've decided that since I can only tell you one thing, it's going to be something shocking, something antithetical to almost everything you have heard or read about college.

Waiting for college is eager apprehension for a blank check of life experiences. It is easy to construct all sorts of fantastic impressions of what will be or what is to come only to find that we can not accurately predict the future.
