Behind many of MC’s favorite events like Choctaw Fest, Cram Jam, Spring Fever, and countless others are about thirty creative and personable students who love creating fun for others. Their mission is simply to involve a diverse student body in many specifically designed events for entertainment. We know this enthusiastic group as the Campus Activities Board, or in MC lingo as “CAB.” Below are a handful of events our friends at CAB have planned for us this semester.
One of the most favored CAB traditions that will, of course, continue this year is Spring Fever Week, beginning the first week of April. For all the proud southerners out there, you might be attracted by the opening event, which is a crawfish boil. This high-energy week will also have a concert, giveaways, and many other events to close the school year in style. Each year there is a theme, but CAB Chairperson Bonnie Slattery aims to keep it a secret until the week begins.
In order to keep the student body involved, CAB strives to introduce new events each year. One such event is a concert that has been accurately called "Jaxn Local." It is designed to give a small concert feel while local Jackson bands will play for the MC students. Another new event, which is actually a wish from many CAB enthusiasts, is a color run. In this event, participants will race around campus while being splattered from head to toe by CAB members.
Just like CAB has used Chillin' with the Choctaws as an attempt to connect students to athletes, they will also be trying to connect students to MC's performers. "The Premier" will be the marketing slogan behind shedding a light on the actors and actresses, singers, and other performers in the fine arts department.
CAB will team up with Lake Forest Ranch in hosting an archery tag competition, and in March will throw a "fiesta." On Valentine's Day, there will be a surprise giveaway. Many other randomly planned events will appear week in and week out. CAB's motivation this semester is to improve traditional events by supplying better food and music and guaranteeing a good time for all.
