I'm not counting, but Christmas is just twenty days away! To get in the Christmas spirit, I would suggest going out and immersing yourself in Christmas, and an easy way to do that is it visit spots with incredible Christmas light displays. This year, we've assembled the top five places within three hours of campus to go and get in the Christmas spirit.
Canton is probably the number one Christmas light destination for MC students. The town square is magical at nighttime. Only 45 minutes from campus, this is a quick getaway from the stress of finals.
New Orleans, LA
Celebration in the Oaks is one of the largest Christmas light displays I've ever been to. City Park glistens with thousands of lights. Grab some beignets as you walk around and be sure listen to "The Cajun Night Before Christmas" to really get in the New Orleans spirit.
Gulfport, MS/Biloxi, MS
Carriage rides, a ferris wheel, and incredible lights can be found in Gulfport's Jones Park at the Gulfport Harbor Winter Lights Festival. Once you're done in Gulfport, hop over to Biloxi (just a town away) and check out Beauvoir, the home of Jefferson Davis, which will be open on Fridays and Saturdays in December from 6-8.
Just thirty minutes away from MC, Madison hosts the Richardson Light Show with over 100,000 LED lights. Perfect for a weeknight outing. Find it at 219 Sundial Road, Madison, MS.
Okay, so this one is a little further than three hours from campus, but just barely. The trip to Mobile is definitely worth it to see Bellingrath Gardens lit for the holidays.
So get out the dorms, take a break from studying, and experience the Christmas season.
