Hi Future Choctaws! Ashton here to bring you another department highlight. Today we're going to take a look at the world that is within Provine Chapel-- the Christian Studies Department.
You know how they say that you can't get through college without changing your major? Well that was extra true to me, a sophomore who is now on her third major. Somewhere between my first semester and now, I wandered into a few departments and I'm thankful that the Christian Studies Department held a semester of my time here (before Jesus told me that I was supposed to major in something else).
Important detail before we move on: I didn't change my major because I didn't like the department. In fact, the Christian Studies Department is a great place. Let's talk about why.
Every department at MC has something special to offer, but this department has a lot of special things about it. If you're looking to learn more about God, ministry, and the Bible, the Christian Studies Department is this place for you.
The department page on MC's website describes that as a Christian Studies major, you have four degree options. Students have the option of pursuing a Bachelor of Arts with an emphasis in any of these four areas: Bible, Philosophy, Biblical Language, and Ministry. If you're looking to minor in Christian Studies, you can focus on Biblical languages, the Bible, Christian Studies & Philosophy, Ministry Studies, and Philosophy.
In the department, you'll take classes varying in subjects such as the world of the Bible, theology of the Bible, teachings of Jesus, foundations of Christian ministry, Christian philosophy, and the development of Christian worship. You can find out more information on what it looks like to be a part of the Christian Studies department by clicking here.
Being a part of the world that flourishes in Provine Chapel is both challenging and encouraging. The faculty of the department are some of the wisest people I've ever met who love their jobs and the students.
If you're looking to go into ministry, missions, worship leading, or you want to spend your time in college learning more about God, this is the department for you. Even if you aren't looking to major in Christian Studies, you may find yourself in Provine for a class or two during your time at MC.
Proverbs 1:7 says, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline." The Christian Studies Department is a place where you put that to life. Your education is built on the foundation of the One who made us and you'll leave with a better understanding of who our Heavenly Father is, the world that Jesus walked in, and His word that is living and active (Hebrews 4:12).
The Christian Studies Department plays a significant role on MC's campus and those that graduate from it play pivotal roles in spreading the Gospel to the world. Be a part.
