Happy October, guys! Even though October is almost over, the fall weather is just getting started. And who doesn't love fall?
Fall is one of my favorite times of year! Not that I dislike other seasons, but there is just something special about fall. Maybe it's the pre-Christmas cheer, the excitement of a new year right around the corner, or the fact that the heat is slowly but surely dissipating.
The fall is also a good reminder that it's good to be a Choctaw! We've got lots of fall traditions that are AH-mazing. Here's a few highlights to look forward to!
Every fall season, we have a trendy outdoor concert that's FREE for MC students. In past years we've had Dave Barnes, Emily Hearn, Andrew Ripp, and Jenny & Tyler come and give great shows. This year's Choctaw Fest artist is a surprise, but there's no doubt that CAB will be expecting a great turnout!
Football Games and Tailgates
Football games are what fall and school spirit are all about. Here at MC, we love to show support for our Choctaws by tailgating on the Quad. There is always a great turnout of families, students, and clubs & tribes. If you want to experience at Choctaw tailgate, come to our Preview Day on November 8!
Rush happens throughout the fall semester. Not only do freshmen and transfers experience two weeks of General Rush, but once they enter into a club and a tribe, they spend the semester going through the rush process to gain membership status.
So Homecoming weekend is HUGE at MC, and the weekend kicks off with Follies! On the Thursday and Friday of Homecoming weekend, pledge classes from every club & tribe put on a production known as Follies, with singing, dancing, acting, and lots of humor.
Brick Street Markets
Clinton's Main Street (aka The Brick Streets) hosts great seasonal events throughout the year, and the fall is no different! This fall Main Street Clinton had their Fall for Clinton Market on October 11. I went and absolutely loved the variety of handmade items for sale, live music, and of course food samples. November 7-8 will be Main Street's 7th Annual Holiday Market. Be sure to stop by! Also, check out the event website and like their Facebook page.
This is a great category to end on. The weather. The weather in the fall is perfect. It reminds me of childhood soccer games and field trip picnics. Walking across campus in the fall is pure bliss. So grab your sweater, warm your hands with coffee to-go, smell some freshly sharpened pencils (You've Got Mail reference, anyone?), and play in the leaves.
