Where Campus and Community Collide: The Brick Streets

Hey, y'all! It's Mary, and I'm here to tell you about the coolest place in Clinton-- the Brick Streets.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Brick Streets, I bet you're wondering what makes this area of Clinton so special. Would it really be worth it to walk all the way past the bookstore? To which I reply with a resounding, "YES!" From shops to bakeries to a tiny courtyard, the Brick Streets have something to offer everyone.

These are my top four favorite places on the Brick Streets!

 1. Olde Towne Courtyard

Jazz music flows through the air, and trees provide the perfect amount of shade in the Olde Towne Courtyard. This spot right off campus is a fantastic place to go! I have spent many hours around one of the tables, reading for class or laughing with my friends. Fun fact: There's a wishing tree in the courtyard! Legend has it that if you tie a string to the tree and make a wish, your wish will come true when the string falls!

2. Wyatt Waters' Gallery

Me, Wyatt, Sterling, and, of course, James!

Wyatt Waters' Gallery is by far my favorite place on the Brick Streets! However, I'm probably biased because I've been working there since January. Upon walking into the gallery, I was greeted by Wyatt himself, Sterling, the gallery director, and his dog, James! Do you love Italy? There are paintings from Wyatt's trip to Italy on the wall! Do you love t-shirts, mugs, or cards? We make all of those things in the gallery, and they're super cute.

3. The Antique Store

Have you ever gotten lost in a store before? No? Well, this is the store to get lost in! Approximately six rooms filled with interesting antiques make this store what it is--a place to spend at least an hour. From jewelry to dresses to furniture to comic books, this store has so much to offer! Stop on in and get lost looking at the antiques!

4. Meme's Bakery

The newest addition to the Brick Streets is Meme's Bakery, for which we at MC are all grateful! With multiple rooms to study in and the smell of cookies wafting through the bakery, this has become a popular spot to go! Need a sugar fix? Meme's Bakery has you covered. (The Peanut Butter cookies are my favorite.)

Although those are my top four favorite places, the Brick Streets has so much more than just these four places! Here's a quick glance at some more awesome places on the Brick Streets.

James and Leigh

This boutique is for all of you who love to buy clothes! Filled with super cute pants, tops, dresses, and skirts, this store is a fashionista's dream. Tip: follow them on Instgram to learn about discounts, events, or free give-aways! (@jamesandleigh)

Attention all book lovers! Pentimentos is the place for you! A cozy used bookstore, Pentimentos has books on almost every subject imaginable: art, travel, history, and literature, of course. This is the perfect place to go if you get caught on the Brick Streets on a rainy day! (I speak from personal experience.)

303 Jefferson

Looking for a fantastic lunch within walking distance of campus? 303 Jefferson offers Southern hot plate lunches daily! This is definitely a place that you should visit at least once while at MC!

Not only do the Brick Streets have awesome shops, but campus events also happen here! This past spring, our Spring Fever concert was held on the Brick Streets for the first time ever, and it was a blast! Also, Back to the Bricks, a Welcome Week event, occurs at the start of the fall semester! Businesses, churches, and companies come to the Brick Streets and set up booths to hand out coupons, candy, and food to welcome the MC students back to Clinton!

Back to the Bricks this past August!

The next time you're buying MC merchandise from the bookstore during your tour, be sure to walk a little further to the Brick Streets! Stop for a cookie at Meme's Bakery, get a book for ride home from Pentimentos, and make a wish in the Olde Towne Courtyard. You won't regret it!
