Andrew here, with a quick blog on the Communication Department. I am a Public Relations major, and I enjoy writing and gaining the other skills that the Communication Department has to offer. Check out their website here.
The Communication Department has five concentrations:
- Interpersonal and Public Communication
- Mass Media
- Public Relations
- Sports Media
Each concentration emphasizes a specific field and equips its students with the tools they need to be successful both now and in the future. One of the ways the Communication Department accomplishes this is by offering unique opportunities to its students.
There are a plethora of ways to get involved with the Communication Department. Students can join the Public Relations Association of Mississippi (PRAM), compete with the Debate Team, write for MC's Newspaper, The Collegian, gain valuable airtime on MC's Radio Station, or learn practical skills in a fun environment with the Choctaw Sports Media Team.
One of my favorite moments in the Communication Department this semester was the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Reception. Ben Ingram, who hosts the Pregame and Post-game show for the Atlanta Braves came and spoke to all of the Communication students. That afternoon, he held a Q&A Session with a handful of students. It was an incredible opportunity to be able to speak with someone who understands the ins and outs of the industry and glean wisdom from his experience.
At its core, the Communication Department wants to provide its students with a strong skill set, and present them with opportunities to fulfill their dreams.
